Silver is a precious metal that does not rust. It is safe for use and has natural antibacterial properties.
However, silver may tarnish over time when exposed to air. When not in use, it is recommended to wrap the piece lightly in a dry cloth or plastic wrap, or place it in a poly bag to minimize exposure to air.
To remove tarnish:
- For larger areas, baking soda may be used. Soak the piece in a solution of diluted baking soda for several minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water and dry completely.
- You may also use aluminum foil. Line a dish with foil, add a tablespoon of salt, place the silver piece on top, and pour in hot water. After about 10 minutes, remove the piece and dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth.
- A silver cleaner can also be used. However, please use with care, as it should not come into contact with materials other than the silver surface.
